Vodafone World's First Rainwater Harvesting Billboard
The Problem
A huge number of farmers from Maharashtra are committing suicide because of acute drought for several years. Their farming land turned barren and the whole family suffered a huge misery. They only pray..rains
The Solution
Vodafone came forward to help the farmers. The RAIN Water Harvesting Solution, a simple and scalable mechanism on top of billboards connected with SIM based sensors and SMS alerts.
How It Worked!
A U-curved aluminium sheet as a rainwater collection funnel on top of the billboards. A PVC tube was further connected to the funnel, which helped the rain water to get collected in a big water tank kept at the bottom of each billboard. To keep a track of water levels in each water tank, a unique Vodafone SIM based sensor technology was devised and placed inside each tank. Once the tanks were full, they sent out SMS alerts to the admin.... The rain water then was pumped on to a mobile water tanker and transported to the drought affected farmlands.
